From a tragic night shift to a nationwide solution
I started my law enforcement career in 2018, bringing 15 years of business experience as an entrepreneur who had successfully started, built, and sold a technology company, plus launched a thriving car dealership, body shop and mechanic shop.
Working a routine shift when a wrong-way driver call came in. Due to chronic understaffing, every officer was tied up. By the time I responded, it was too late.
Standing on that highway surrounded by twisted metal, I realized this wasn't just randomโit was potentially preventable. Our understaffing wasn't administrative; it was a public safety crisis.
I approached our recruiter asking "How can I help?" What I found was eye-opening: candidates falling through cracks, scattered information, wasted resources with no measurable results.
I reached out to my dad, who had decades of police administration and HR experience, and my friend Zach Standeford, a former Marine Corps recruiter who was now a CrossFit coach and gym owner, bringing proven recruiting methodologies and leadership expertise.
I implemented the CivicHire system as a pilot program. Results were immediate: 40% increase in academy class size, significant reduction in drop-off, clear metrics on what worked.
